A Star Wars 5th Birthday

by Sara Mooradian on September 16, 2011

We have a BIG birthday around the corner.

My baby boy is turning 5. F-I-V-E.

GULP.

Five is big. Like, really big.

I hope when Jack turns five he will still reach for my hand in the parking lots like he does now.

I hope he will still run into my room in the morning for cuddles.

I hope…

I know my days are numbered for when he still wants to hang out with me and ‘five’ feels all that closer to being a real ‘big kid.’
This is only exacerbated by the fact that my ‘baby’ is now fully versed in all things Star Wars.

Cardboard tubes are transformed into ‘light sabers’ and waffles now resemble ‘death stars.’  All Legos are now Star Wars ships and everyone is a ‘Jedi.’

So I’m going along with it. Because it’s a) inevitable and  b) hey… Star Wars is pretty cool.

But timing wise – this birthday is going to be a CRUNCH – there is zero time for last minute planning and already I’m stressed.  I’ve been collecting some Star Wars ideas for awhile now and I thought I would share some of my favorites with you.

My general plan is to surprise him with a new Star Wars bedroom including some new Star Wars bedsheets and posters for his room. I’m putting Daddy in charge of the official Star Wars toy because I know he will have just as much fun shopping for it as Jack will have playing with it.

So here’s what Star Wars things I’m obsessed with:

For his room:

New bedsheets to coordinate with his blue duvet covers:

Pottery Barn Kids Star Wars bed sheets

Love these posters for his room on one wall.

Big boy "Star Wars" Art for one wall of his room, via society6 all art by Danny Haas.

On the other main wall I think I like this LED art also by Pottery Barn:

Death Star Art - Pottery Barn Kids

I almost always make special sugar cookies as favors and these just look amazing:

Or maybe these? Also by Sweet Sugar Belle:

I still have lots of planning to do – like what the heck we are actually going TO DO to celebrate this momentous birthday. But I did do something already, I got him this awesome t-shirt from Made By Morgan.

Darth Vader silkscreen t-shirt via Etsy from madebymorganwiebke

Got any good Star Wars things I should check out?

Any advice for me on my baby turning 5?

Bring it.

That’s stuff is really cool.
I love the led art and the cookies look great.
I have no advice for you, my son is turning nine next week and i’m going nuts.
So much planning to do.
But I can tell you one thing: even though my son is turning nine, there’s no one who likes to cuddle and hold my hand more then he does. (Just not in front of his friends.)

The good news? My boys are 8 & 10 and they still snuggle me all the time. Sometimes they even fight over who GETS to snuggle me. And they still reach for my hand in the parking lot. (Well the younger one more than the older, but he will if it’s just the two of us). Also? My daughter is FOURTEEN and she comes and gets in bed with me before school every morning to snuggle. That’s high school. So, you have lots of loving time ahead of you.

Second: That Star Wars stuff is just the coolest EVER. I am going to have to find the artwork, especially, for my boys. Because the awesome thing about Star Wars is that boys never stop liking it. I mean even when they are grown up – whether they admit it or not.

YOU ROCK.

You just totally made my day by telling me your kids still cuddle with you.
Actually, you reminded me that I cuddled with my Mom right up until she passed away (I was 24!) so I hope my kids are always climbing into bed in the AM hours! It is the sweetest moments.
As for the art – if you click on the picture it will take you to Society6 where you can find it. I’m also pretty partial to the fractal art there.

Oh my gosh, 5.

I remember the sweetness of 5.

Mine are now 16, 14, and 9.

And I remember 5 with each one.

It’s a sweet spot for boys isn’t? Big boy but still glimpses of needing mommy.
I’m excited for his birthday, they are kind of a big deal around here!

Oh my gosh, 5 sounds so old. We are almost to 4 and that is sounding old to me. Those sugar cookies look amazing, you have to show off whatever you decide to make, I can’t wait to see.

I love the t-shirt. Every once is a while I see cute hats that pop up on etsy like this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/81002466/chunky-yoda-star-wars-inspired-hat?ref=sc_1

Good luck. I can’t wait to see the pictures of the event!

If your party is going to be outdoors – check out these bags from Ace Hardware (I think Lowe’s has them too).
It is my favorite party tip of all time! http://www.kellytirman.com/2011/08/five-brilliant-birthday-party-ideas-worth-stealing-2/
